As times evolved, longevity has increased, and this does not only mean a longer lifespan, but also a chance for people to continue learning, creating, pursuing their passions and contributing economically and socially.
More and more studies show that the potential of senior entrepreneurs is significant. According to data from Microfinance Centre, if people aged 50 – 64 were as active in launching businesses as those aged 30 – 49, Europe would have 5.5 million more senior entrepreneurs. At the same time, many senior entrepreneurs choose to remain professionally active by managing their own businesses. According to GEM data, the number of people over 50 who run independent activities exceeds that of young entrepreneurs. Through their activity, they create jobs, support local communities, and bring stability to the business environment.
However, when it comes to launching new businesses, the potential of seniors is still not fully tapped into. Although they have the experience and resources, many of them do not manage to turn their ideas into businesses – not due to a lack of capacity, but because of insufficient support and visibility.
In 2025, Microinvest, alongside 17 other European companies, joins the “Microfinance for Senior Entrepreneurship – Unlocking Untapped Potential” international campaign organized by MFC, to support this valuable potential for our society and economy. Through responsible financing, we aim to help more entrepreneurs put their plans into motion and show that dreams have no expiration date.
