“A 40 kg cake? For us, nothing is impossible” – Mirela Alexa, founder of the Miller’s Cake brand, Microinvest client

Who would have thought that a single cake prepared for a celebration would become the starting point of an entire bakery brand? This is how Mirela Alexa founded Miller’s Cake – a bakery brand inspired by her family’s traditions, which is now known for its unique style, 12 exclusive cake flavors, and a wide range of refined desserts.

Mirela, how did the idea of creating your own dessert brand in Moldova come about?

We have a family business that we have been developing together with my father. In 2007, he opened first restaurant. Since then, our goal has not been just to serve guests, but to create special moments for them, offering emotions that stay in their memory. In 2013, a new idea emerged – a company offering candy bars for celebrations. It was a special discovery for clients living abroad who were organizing events from a distance. That’s when everything started: one cake, then another – bigger, with different fillings, different decorations. And from a simple attempt, something much bigger emerged – an entire direction. That’s how the Miller’s Cake brand was born – with love, with history, with character.

What desserts can be found in your bakery?

Miller’s Cake is a place where you can find unique, handcrafted desserts that combine taste, aesthetics, and attention to detail. Here, you can try cupcakes, cake pops, macarons, pies, Belgian chocolate mousses, tarts – all in a variety of flavors. We also offer vegan desserts, so that every guest can find something to their liking. One of our proudest achievements is our collection of cakes, with no less than 12 flavors. Each one is special in its own way, from the classic Red Velvet to the delicate Banana & Caramel, Oreo Cake, and more.

What trends have you observed in the world of pastry? What do clients choose most often?

There are flavors that are timeless – for example, chocolate cake with cherries. For events, lighter and more refreshing flavors are being chosen more and more. One of the most popular is our Vanilla Cake with fresh strawberries, vanilla layers, and mascarpone cream. Undoubtedly, Red Velvet also ranks high – it is often ordered for various celebrations. But what truly delights us is the new trend: clients are increasingly open to experiments. That’s why we created a line of cakes with exotic flavors – Chocolate Passion, Pinna Colada. These are desserts that surprise and leave a lasting impression.

What was the most memorable dessert in Miller’s Cake practice?

In our team, we like to set ambitious goals and constantly push our limits. One of the most impressive records is a 40 kg cake. It was made in an Italian style, with two flavors: the classic Red Velvet and our signature flavor, Miller’s Cake. The cake’s diameter was approximately 1.8 meters – almost like a full table! A truly special moment was when the bride and groom decorated it with fresh fruits right in front of the guests.

Mirela, what is the secret of your success and unlimited energy?

First of all, I am grateful to my father, who many years ago founded our family business. He is always by my side – supporting, advising, and inspiring me. I believe this is one of the key factors behind my success. And when it comes to energy – it comes from our team. At Miller’s Cake, we have young, ambitious, and energetic people. I’m convinced that 90% of our success is thanks to them. Their internal motivation, creativity, and desire to grow every day – that’s what truly pushes us forward.

How did your collaboration with Microinvest start and how do you evaluate it?

We’ve known about Microinvest for a long time – this is undoubtedly due to the strong brand that builds recognition and trust. The decision to start the collaboration was quite spontaneous, but we are glad it was a success. Together, we’ve managed to achieve our goals, and today, we confidently call Microinvest our trusted partner. What advice would you give to new entrepreneurs?

Don’t be afraid! Mistakes are part of the journey, and there’s nothing scary about them. The most important thing is not to give up. We’ve faced challenges too: there were burnt cakes, overbaked biscuits, and mistakes in decorating. But all of that turned into valuable experience. It’s rare that everything works perfectly the first time, and that’s absolutely normal. The most important thing is discipline. It’s what helps you move forward even when things get tough. The result will definitely come. Maybe not right away, but if you believe in your business and keep going, it will come. And it will be worth all the effort.
